Introducing the Revised Edition

Today is the official launch of The Colors of Magic, Revised Edition!  I soft launched it over the weekend, but an amazing beta reader sent me some typos, and I found an art credit I forgot; so today's hotfix represents the "final" edition of The Colors of Magic.

I taught myself basic desktop publishing layout in Affinity Publisher for this edition, and I bought and hunted down a lot of stock art.

Some things have changed since the old 2020 version.  First, it's not reliant on candy - candy is an option, not the default now.  Second, it doesn't require three players exactly.  Running with fewer worked just fine!  Third, I clarified the "menu" choices.  You might have noticed the menu handout with clearer explanations of the choices appear earlier this year.

The game also got a quick start, which you can use as inspiration at character creation if you want, or you can pick or even roll for choices on the lists to build a character fast.  (If you roll, it's the only time anyone will use a randomizer in this game!).

I think removing a lot of the candy-talk from the text clarifies that the candies (if you use them) are not meant as a resource conservation mechanic or any such thing.  The only way candy should influence your game is if your love of grape candy turns your character into a vortex of bad luck, foolish mistakes, and betrayal.

Special thanks to my beta readers and playtesters, and to the artists who sell (or even give away!) stock art.  Special thanks to the people who told me Affinity Publisher was easy to learn (it really was).

Happy gaming,

Jon
